Emelie Lynn Swart studied illustration and holds a bachelor and master in Architecture at the

Technical University in Delft.

Her work is composed mainly of portraits and figures that are manifesting themselves as emotional, colourful landscapes.They show an intuitive feeling of connection driven by introspective moments and thoughts we keep to ourselves. By using found imagery as a reference material in an abstract way, artist and subject distinguish themselves and make sure the reference imagery distances itself from representing specific individuals. The portraits transform into a new persona which is abstracted and intentionally ambiguous. This way it gives the viewer the opportunity to create his own narrative, meaning or associations. Expressing emotions through painting is for her the most truthful language and working with oil paint and colours makes her feel connected and positively inspired.
